Does early nadir mean too much insulin? We had been giving Hershey .6 u since his drop 2/10 and resumed his sliding scale at PMPS since his BG was 375 (so .7u). At +4 (160) and +6 (197). I thought I read somewhere that an early nadir can mean too much insulin, but can't find where I read it now.

So, is that the case or is it just one of those things?? Just trying to figure out what to do before AMPS.

Thanks and have a great evening!

Usually we see early nadirs when cats are first on insulin. Late nadirs usually mean too much insulin.

His numbers are looking pretty good. I would stick with the scale and try a few more cycles.

I've been checking his ss daily and was starting to think we would need to change the scale, I'm glad I waited. It looks like he has finally settled into the scale.

I think you are doing great!

My Payne has an early nadir and what it means for her is she does best on TID .... she is a heavy guzzler and uses up the insulin early and fast, which is why we need to shoot every 8 hours. But she uses 12u a day, so doesn't sound like you. Also, nadirs are not written in stone, especially in the beginning of the dance, things can change.

Nancy and Payne .....

Thanks, y'all - I'd love to see his numbers a little lower, but am happy to see less red! I wish he'd be more active, too, besides just me walking him at mealtime (I figured up 30X around the kitchen island ~ .09 mi, so 4 X/day = ~.36 mi) and an occasional short-lived wrestle with Oreo. Hoping that will come soon; I'm not known for my patience. ;-)

I'm not sure how long it takes a kitty to settle into a nadir time. Was asked the other day when Poopy's nadir is. Had to scratch my head and mutter "Somewhere between +5 and +7" as his still isn't at a set time. ECID.
