Does anyone weigh their cat? Harley has lost some weight - not much, just a few ounces. The vet has now asked that I weigh him weekly and if he loses more weight - more tests will be scheduled.

How do you weigh a cat? Can't be on my scale - won't show the oz. Can anyone give me some tips.

Yea I weigh Gustav and Simba. We weigh them at each vet visit. And I weigh them at home on my people scale. I first weigh myself and write down my weight. Then I pick up the cat and hold him tight to me and I weigh us together and write down our weight. Then I substract our weight with my weight and thus get the cat's weight.

I weigh my girls all the time.... I was the one that purchased a baby scale from Craigslist.... Mommabean got a new toy! I am soo glad I have that as now I know Sugar Bean is finally gaining from her dx of 8 lbs. to 10.10 that we did the last weigh in. At first, I weighed about 2 -3 times a week, now we go more for 1 time a month.... but is nice to not guess anymore... found cheap on craigslist...about 1/2 the price

I use a portable luggage scale from LeeValley, $9.95. I put the cat in a fabric shopping bag and hang from the scale or I sling a rope on a favoured basket:

Bag or basket, they think it's a pretty fun game. It will do lbs or kg to 2 decimal place, or ounces to 1 decimal place (though it is only accurate to 1% for weights above 1 kg, pretty good for the price). It beeps when it locks onto the weight and holds it on screen so you don't need to read the weight while holdig the cat off the ground. It also has tare weight, so you can zero it to take the bag or baskets weight into account without the cat in it (or you can just subtract if you like). I've been weighing all my cats at least weekly now since the addition of a diabetes kitty has changes everyones feeding routine.

I sue a postal scale. Mine weighs up to 30 pounds and is accurate to about .2 ounces.

Put can into carrier, weight both cat and carrier. Then subtract weight of empty carrier.

Be sure to get a postal scale that has the 'hold' function. When the weight is detected,
the scale will continue to show the weight even after the carrier is removed. The carrier
will stick out over the edges and you might not be able to see the weight display while the
carrier/cat is on the scale.

You can get postal scales on eBay and at places like Staples, Office Max, etc.

I find mine handy in the kitchen, also, and I even use it for weighing packages, print my
postage on-line....save a trip to the PO.
