Just wondering if anyone supplements with vitamins/minerals/herbs, etc.

i use rescue remedy as needed (for them AND me!!! :). And on my two civies i give them the HALO Vitamin Mineral Mix daily. they seem to have more energy and makes their coats extra fluffy and soft. but now i need to consider blood sugar levels and other things and i'm wondering what's been tried already.

thanks in advance and Happy Holidays everybody!!!

Can't answer your question since I don't use any supplements, but I love the pic!

haha, thanks! noticed you guys like the freeze dried chicken treats.... that was the only thing that kept her distracted long enough to keep the outfit on for a few pics!

I give my cat a salmon oil capsule (for dry flaky skin), CoQ10, and Azodyl (a probiotic developed for cats with chronic renal failure). Between the three supplements and 3 meds a day she probably feels like I'm always shoving pills down her throat.

did you notice any change in the insulin requirement??? i read an article that said diabetic cats and any cat with a chronic ongoing illness is likely low on CoQ10. i have used the salmon oil from onlynaturalpet (they are on the on the FDMB "shop" page) and it comes in a pump bottle.... might be one less pill (or for that matter, poke the capsul with a lancet and squirt the stuff on the food... might take some getting used to though.

thanks! and happy holidays!

I've been giving Sitka CoQ10 for a couple of years because of her CRF. She is only recently become diabetic and I think its because she is on a steroid for her inflammatory bowel disease. So I don't know if adding CoQ10 would affect insulin levels. This poor cat has so many medical issues that we have nicknamed her Timex because she just keeps going

Since Rescue Remedy is just floral essence, it shouldn't make any difference in BG levels. I wouldn't think fish oil would either. I do know that my Maggie's BGs did go up with Glucosamine, but not every one has had that experience.

Remember, every cat IS different, so note on your SS when you add a supplement so you can track any increases accurately. If you see an increase, eliminate the supplement. If the BG goes back down, you probably can safely say it was caused by the supplement.

If a supplement does cause an increase, you need to balance it's benefits against the increase in BG. Sometimes you just need to give the med for health reasons and live with the slight increase in BG levels.
