Does anyone have any experience with Code Free glucose monitor

Hello,

I have been trying to find recommendations for glucose monitors but can't seem to find a search option on the forum (I'm on mobile).

My cat (Tabby) has just been diagnosed and I am looking for a good but inexpensive monitor & strips. The research I have done so far seems to be aimed more at the US market (I'm in the UK) or outdated and links to models that no longer exist so I've been struggling a little (I have ME/CFS and can only do a small amount at a time then have to rest). I had been looking for one that only needed 0.3 microlitre of blood as my cat didn't bleed much and needed a fair bit of squeezing when vet was showing me how to do (she had just had just had a blood test) but I keep seeing an advert for Code free which is low cost for both strips (£7.69 for 50) and monitor (£13 for a starter kit) but requires 0.9 microlitres which being 3 tines as much isn't ideal.

Before I wear myself out further trying to find something I wondered if anyone had used this particular brand/model and if they would recommend it.
Or if anyone knows of one easily available in the UK that only needs 0.3 microlitres of blood and with test strips of a similar sort of price?
If you could link me to an existing thread on this it would be much appreciated and I can read through when my brain is back in gear again.

Hi Hannah, I'm not very up to date with monitors I'm afraid but I do know that other UKers have used the Code Free and been quite happy with it. If you look at the top right of this page you'll see a search box where you can key in Code Free or similar and see what threads come up. There are alternatives, such as the One Touch Ultra and a couple of others which I can't think of at present but maybe @Elizabeth and Bertie will remember.

ETA - one other was the Accu Chek Performa Nano

Hi @Hannah, I see you've had some good advice from Diana.

Other UKers have certainly used the Codefree meter.
But the Accu-chek Nano that Diana mentioned uses only 0.6 of a microlitre, I think. And I'm pretty sure there is another Accu-chek meter that uses an even smaller sample, just 0.3 of a microlitre (I think it's the Accu-chek 'mobile').

There is also the Freestyle Lite meter which, similarly, uses 0.3 of a microlitre blood sample. ...This meter used to be considered problematic for testing cats' blood (I mention that because if you do a search for the meter you may find references to that). But people who have used them more recently have not expressed any issues with the meter at all as far as I know, and some people really like this meter.

I still use the (rather old fashioned now) One Touch Ultra 2 which uses 1 microlitre :rolleyes:. That used to be a small blood sample, but meters have come a long way since my cat was diagnosed!

Thanks all, for the price I've decided to give the code-free a go, if it doesn't work out I can always have it as a spare (and use to test myself when I'm feeling faint).
I'll probably try the Freestyle Freedom Lite next if I don't get on with it, but as the strips for that cost twice as much and I can't claim on insurance I figured it was definitely worth a try.

@Fiona1 may be some info above for you about meters. And if you look at the info under Elizabeth & Bertie's post you will see a link to the UK food list, if you haven't already found it.

How have you got on using the code free i have got it but not able to use it yet not good at instructions
