My 9 year old Civie Fluffy has severe arthritis and i have been giving buprenex twice a day,
like every 12 hours for maybe over 2 months.

He gets a little hyper and rolls around on the floor a lot when i first give it.
For the past few days he is slow and never plays and just sits hunched over like he does when in pain. (he is still hyper when i first give it tho) He squints his eyes over and over.
Something is wrong.
I thought this behavior is because he is in more pain lately.

I talked to my Vet and he said he believes the buprenex is causing sedation. He said with long term use like this ,even tho it is supposed to last like 7-8 hours, there is some lingering around in his system and building up.
He says Fluffy may be addicted to it now and he believes Fluffy should be weaned off it.

Fluffy had blood work done a month ago and results were ok.

He has been taking aspirin every third day and adequin weekly. The buprenex really worked.

Has anyone's cat had this problem with buprenex?

I have never used it longterm, only for short periods while waiting for something else to kick in. It does seem like it could be the problem though as it really sedated my Niko (GA) after only a couple of days of treatment.
