I was looking at a few videos on how to prick the cat's ear. Do I put cotton or tissue in the ear and prick through the outside?

Or Do I put something on the outside and prick from the inside?

I always poke from the inside ear to out (front to back) same as putting on earrings....I hold the warming sock behind hear when poking, so if I do pierce, I hit the sock and not my finger....hope that helps

I poke Michelangelo from the outside and usually only his right ear. It bleeds better than his left and he usually doesn't like me playing with his left ear for some reason. I tried testing his left ear this morning and I poked like 5 times and never got any blood.

On the rare occasions I test Henry, I usually poke the inside because his ears are all black so it makes spotting the blood drop harder if I poke the outside.

I also use only my finger as backing because if I poke through to my finger, I know the lancing device is set too high. Once his ears started bleeding better and I decreased the device to the lowest setting (after the first month or so), I haven't ever poked my own finger since.

I poke China from the inside. It's just easier for me to get to...and when I poked on the outside, she ended up with pink ears because the blood would stain her white fur.

You poke wherever you can get to easiest and that puts the least amount of stress on the cat :)
