Hi All,

It's me again with Petie - my 13 y.o. guy who was diagnosed about a month ago with diabetes and now seems to have wonky kidney numbers. Do you guys leave food out at night for your kitties?

I originally started leaving wet out for Petie, but he never ate it. Now, I leave the combo of Young Again and Taste of the Wild dry out and he seems generally happier and he eats more during the day when I do this.

What do you guys recommend?

Thanks all!
Jackie

Yes!!!! Since I removed the dry food, it is imperative that I leave something for all my cats to graze on overnight or else they will not let me rest.

My FD gets wetted Merrick BG or wellness. He nibbles on it throughout the night but I have to take up any left over in am or he will eat it right before test. My civvies get Tiki chicken. The initially lick the gravy off it and then chew on the dried up chicken shreds during the night. What I like is that both of these options are available and not harmful for all my kitties to eat and I get to ZZZZZZZZZZZ.

I also put some freeze dried treats in a bowl in the cupboard so they have to hunt for it. One of the solutions offered for a Feline Hyperesthesia cat is to hide treats for them to find. He opens the unlatched cupboard, reaches into the bowl, grabs the treat and runs off with it. If I don't set this up he will lick the skin off my nose while I am sleeping which he has done a few times. Scabby nose - not fun!

Oh you are such a wonderful mother! I love that you hide the treats in a cupboard. Hmmm - maybe I could find a box or something hide them in as we don't really have any cupboards.

The only thing is, Petie won't eat wet food left out. Maybe I should try putting some more dry food on it and that way at least he has to lick the wet food to get the dry.

I don't leave food out at night because my cat thinks she's a person - sleeps the whole night on the bed beside me. But I do usually give her a small snack of low carb wet food before lights-out, which is usually around +6 or 7. If I skip the snack her blood sugar seems to be higher in the morning than when she does get the snack.

I struggle with getting mine to eat at night and recently found these treats.... with this crumbled on top , she's at least eating the top layer.

I get up in the middle of the night ( bathroom) and crumble more on top .
Mine has Young again but she could care less about dry... I am so fortunate that way.

You are soooo lucky (and smart!) that your cat isn't addicted to dry like mine. I am struggling so much with this. Oh! Those are great treats!! Thanks for the tip!

Amy that is hysterical about Papaya!! I have also noticed that my cat seems better when he does eat at night. He has more of an appetite during the day.

I leave canned out all night.

Have you got As Fed values for Taste of The Wild?

I don't leave food out at night. But that is only because my cats are all Hoovers, Eurekas, Kirbys, Dysons, whatever you want to call it. Sure would make it easier, to have a bit of food left out at night, so I did not get those early morning wake up calls.

On hiding the food somewhere fun that your kitty could still find to take a nibble, since you said you didn't have cupboards. How about an old Kleenex box? Cat could stick their head in to find the treat and be contented with a nibble?

I feed Hobbs 4x/day, so his auto feeder turns at 11:15pm after I've gone to bed, and it turns at 11:15am while I'm at work. So it's out so he can eat it at his leisure.

Halo Liv-a-Little freeze dried chicken treats. Crumble really easily and were a live saver when I was getting Wink to transition from dry to wet food. Sprinkle a bit of crushed treat on his food, and he'd gobble it up. Sometimes, it took several applications of the powdered treat to get him to eat enough.

Sorry, Wendy - struggling with google docs - he has been at 172 for two days now. Will update the file in a sec.

I crumble sooo many things on Petie's food. He gets tired of the same treats over and over. He is one picky cat!!

My cats used to be much pickier eaters. They would fall in love with some food and I would buy a lot of it and then they wouldn't want it any more.

They all eat Wellness grain free turkey and salmon now and they like it, day in and day out. I don't know what it is about that food but they just like it. So much easier.

sort of.

Everything:
Wellness grain free turkey, chicken and chicken and beef (with dry food sprinkled on top)
a few licks of EVO chicken and turkey 9with dry food sprinkled on top)
Young Again zero carbs with a little bit of Taste of the Wild
White meat chicken (with dry food sprinkled on top)
a few bits of deli turkey to get his B12 pill down (i usually just get half down that way)
supplements and freeze-dried meats
also giving him "Daily Best" multi-vitamin, Gentle digest (probiotic chewable), lysium and dsm chewable

Ok great. Those vitamins.. Any of them got sources of carbs in them?p

How about we find out? Test his blood, give the vitamins, test the blood in an hour. Let's see if it goes up.
