? Do I Shoot Jake? - He's at 23.5

Hi everyone, though I had decided to stop giving Jake insulin as he is likely now on his last days, and I haven't given him an injection since yesterday morning (now 3:15pm Monday here), he had a seizure this morning (which was awful beyond words) but a few hours later ate some food, walked to the kitty litter to pee etc, so vet has said to watch him over the next 24 hours. Vet said he may have had seizure due to low BG, so I tested him and he is at 23.6, which has me thinking that perhaps I should give him a 1/2 unit injection? I'm such a mess at the moment and want to do the right thing but not sure what it is and would appreciate any advice you have! Thank you.

Hi. I'm so sorry Jake had a seizure this morning. It must have been terrible for you to see. I witnessed our dog have one and it was awful.:bighug::bighug::bighug:
I would not think that it is the BG level that is causing the seizure (but I am not a vet). At the moment it is 424 (23.6). Maybe the cancer has travelled to the brain and that is causing it.
I just had a look at the SS but it is not up to date I don't think, so I'm not sure what you have been giving....I looked back and you did have a low number a couple of days ago and Marje and Sienne recommended you cease the insulin.
They will all be asleep now as it is after midnight in the US.
Can you ring the vet and ask for some medication to stop any more seizures overnight? That may be your best bet. Tell him that the BG level was 23.6 so its not a hypo.
I'll watch for your reply.

Thx so much for your reply. The cancer has definitely traveled to his brain...he's had neurological issues on and off for the last 3 months. Yes, it was awful and made that much worse because it happened just a few hours before I had to be in court (I'm a lawyer) and I was a mess at court this morning fearing he might pass while I was gone and feeling so angry that there is no room for compassion in my job sadly. I was lucky I hit a good judicial officer and when I told him with tears in my eyes that I wanted to complete my matter asap as I had a pressing personal emergency, he let me get out of there quickly. I had planned to get home and rush him to the vet to say good bye to him, but when I got home he had perked up a bit and wanted some food.....shortly after I spoke to the specialist....they didn't recommend any meds for overnight.....just said to keep an eye on him over the next 24 hours to see how he goes.....she had suggested I euthanize him when I saw her on Saturday but we decided to give him one last shot with a chemo combo. It sadly hasn't been the miracle cure I was hoping for, but the next couple of days could still show some improvement I suppose. Cancer is such a cruel disease.

Yes it is a horrible disease. I thought they might give him something that would reduce the risk of further seizures to make him more comfortable. Do you think it would be worth ringing and asking?

I'd like to think that if she thought there was an appropriate drug she would have suggested I get it when I spoke to her? He's already on a lot....2 lots of chemo streaming through him, steroids, bupe and antibiotics. I've ditched the cbd after this morning's seizure....it's illegal here so you can't be sure that what you're buying is pure....others have recommended the seller I bought from, but I'm a bit paranoid....plus, I just started giving him the bupe this morning and that seems to be having a similar effect. It's so bad/inhumane that our government doesn't allow it because it just sends people to the black market for it.
Edited to add - I also spoke to the ER vet at the Specialist Hospital this morning and she didn't suggest a drug for it either....I spoke to his oncologist a few hours later and she didn't suggest anything either.

I was thinking along the lines of phenobarbitone or valium which would be specifically to stop a seizure happening.
Not sure why she didn't suggest that? Maybe cause he's already on steroids and bupe? They are the best specialist centre in sydney with a big oncology ward, internal medicine specialists, neurologists etc so I'd like to think they know what they are doing.
