should i fast my civie before he has an abdominal ultraound tomorrow at 10am and if so, when should i start? thanks. they would prob be looking at everything in the abdomin and instestines. thanks.

there were no instruction from the vet. the receptionist said she would ask and get back to me if i needed to fast him but she didn't but that doesn't necessarily mean not to fast since they are very disorganized there.

I'm trying to remember Odie's first ultrasound, I think he fasted after midnight. Only water available and then took that away around 8am.

He's had a few recheck ultrasounds since and he did not fast. He had one just last week and afterwards I was telling the vet, he only ate a little bit so far today, before coming... and her answer was "yes, I saw it on the ultrasound!"

I did not fast for u/s for Shadoe or Xrays for Oliver. I did fast for blood draws for both when they were being tested for acro and IAA, and also for Shadoe's dental.

MY IM specialist always wants me to fast the cat before an abdominal u/s. I think it helps with visualizing the organs. There also may be a slight possibilty they might want to sedate the cat (normally not needed), so fasting means that can be done if needed.

Let us know how this goes.

Also, when you get home, you might want to take a few minutes and wipe down the fur around the shaved spot on your cat's belly. The jelly that they use for ultrasounds can get on the fur and, if your cat grooms it off the fur, it may cause a bout of diarrhea or an otherwise upset stomach.
