Folks - any and all ideas welcome. I may be able to go over there as she is in Columbus, too.
 
BJM, do you know a vet in the area that would be willing to Rx her stuff and do labs or that is experienced with diabetic complications? It seems that her vet is pushing for euthanizing "if she's not better by tomorrow", seems like they might not be keen to treat or know how.
 
Not off hand, but I have some names she could check. It really depends on how he is doing, how badly the electrolytes are derranged, dehydration. If she can get subcutaneous fluids, home test, and has potassium prescribed in an appropriate dose, plus a daily test from a vet, she may be able to nurse him through.
