Mim has been taking 1 unit of Lamtus twice daily. Her numbers were in the low 100's for at least one reading the past three days. So she only received one insulin dose each day. Today she did not eat as much as she has been. She has snubbed her food when she normally would eat it all. Her morning reading was 430 and she received a full unit. Her number tonight was 244. Both of these numbers are after eating. Could she be finally starting to regulate so her appetite is slowing down? What could be going on? Help!

How much did she eat today.

I can't tell what's going on, need more data. Although going low then high can be bouncing.. Can you set up a spreadsheet? That way we can tell more..

Where can I learn more about bouncing? She ate well this morning. (2/3 of FF can) Her brother eats the rest. THis is what she normally eats in the morning. She ate it all but did not seem as ravenous as she usually is..Will test BG in half hour (per vet request to look at her insulin needs. Also will be doing a curve next week.
Thanks so much for all info! I was really nervous when she was not eating!

Bounces - what are they and is my cat doing them?
When a cat isnt regulated, the blood glucose has probably been high for a while. As the insulin starts to take effect and numbers start to come down, the liver has to learn to adjust to the lower numbers. We call this "liver training school". But before it relearns that low numbers are ok, when the BG drops to a number lower than the liver is accustomed, or if BGs drop low, or if the BG drops suddenly, the liver”panics” and reacts by releasing counterregulatory hormones and glucagon. This drives the BG back up. This is what we call a "bounce". Bounces can take up to 72 hours to clear so we are generally careful about increasing doses during the bounce. Once the bounce clears, then you can see the "real" numbers and determine if the dose needs to go up or down.

Thank you Wendy! Very clear and simple explanation. For the past week she has had one low number and one high (low 100's for low and low 300's for high) The vet thinks that she may only need 1/2 dose 2x a day. She wants me to do a curve first. So I plan to do one next week when I am home for a few days to snuggle with my sugar kitty!
Thanks again!!!
