Difficult Feeding

Hello,

I'm brand new here and this question is probably posted constantly I apologize in advance.. I am currently breaking the bank on Purina Dietetic Management canned wet food. This food has put my 11 year old diabetic into remission (he doesn't get insulin shots)

Now he is not eating when previously would lick the plate clean, I was told to feed him 2 cans a day and he is barely eating .25 of one. He is a very long and tall cat just very big in stature. I feed him chicken hearts as a treat and he goes nuts for them but ignores the food. I need help on finding another food that is hopefully a lot less then $60 a case for 24 and just as good as the Purina Dietetic Management.

Mugs has never been overweight which was why it was so surprising he was diabetic and he's losing weight pretty fast with ignoring his food. Would really appreciate some advice.

There’s a list of canned foods and carb content, I don’t have it but somebody will answer with it
My cat quit eating the Beyond pâté so I’m feed Sheba pâté and she laps every bit. I use and hand mixer and mix into a soup. The Shaba PÂTÉ....pâté only is ok carb wise...

There are a lot of cat food that are low carb. Most of the food that the vets recommend are ready not very good. Read the ingredients. Near the top of the health forum is a link for a chart with carb, calories, protein and other things. It was made up by a vet. You can find most brands of cat foods there.

After a cat becomes regulated, their appetite won't be ravenous like it was when their BG was through the roof. So it's not quite accurate to compare eating after regulation to their eating before.

Anything under 10% carbs is recommended for diabetics, though the lower you can get it the better. I think the most popular food is Fancy Feast Classic pate, the most affordable low carb food with a high amount of protein

He isn't on insulin he's completely regulated by diet, I monitor his glucose at home. I live in Ontario Canada and I've looked for the classic pates before with zero luck I've been to Walmart's 5 pet depots. Thank you for the link I'll scour through it!

Once you find a food that works, I have found that ordering it online will save a lot of money. I order 8 cases a month of canned for 3 of my cats and we buy a bag of dry for one. We go through a lot of pet food with 4 cats and 2 dogs. They're worth it.
