Different Shooting Sites - Absorption?

Below is a copy & paste of something I stumbled upon in the "think tank". Now I am wondering where IS the best place to shoot and where at, offers the MOST absorption? Fastest absorption?

"Guess I have been shooting on the side of the chest rather than at the scruff...
that was a good visual that Jill posted...
Seems awkward to try to give the insulin in the stomach or underside anywhere if you have
been shooting in other spots, no? Doubt my two would take to that very kindly....
But, if the underside has better absorption, what does that do to the numbers and current dose?
Flip 'em over and shoot them there, and then the dose that was doing one thing consistently would
be stronger in effect, right? "

I rotate injection sites on Gracie....scruff, next day chest, next day flank. I've been tracking it for a long time and see no discernible differences in absorption rates. And remember it is just how quickly it absorbs so that doesn't necessarily mean numbers will be higher or lower.

Studies in humans have shown there can be up to a 50% variation in rate of absorption from the same dose from shot to shot. So I don't get wrapped up in injection site absorption. I mainly rotate sites so she doesn't get scar tissue which does decrease rate of absorption.

[quote="Marje and Gracie"scruff, next day chest, next day flan[/quote]Oh dear,I've been using his shoulder, flank and upper leg...

I move Gabby's shot round her scruff and and shoulder areas. Any time I've tried to shoot in other areas, I ended up giving a fur shot.

I actually wonder if absorption is more of an issue with shorter acting, non-depot type of insulin.

From what I've seen and read, I'd say "yes" on PZI/Prozinc and even shorter acting/lasting insulins. Some people say that they get better results with flanks than scruff shots for instance. I experienced first hand that shooting IM caused earlier nadir and shorter duration with PZI.

I would think location would matter less with the depot type insulins like Lantus and Levemir. Except as Marje noted, that you wouldn't want to shoot the same spot over and over and cause any build up of scar tissue.
