Diet when cat is anorexic or barely eating.

Toby discontinued Lantus today and started on Toujeo today with hopes that his readings will go down without bouncing.
Good news is that he does not need to eat prior to dosing. He usually vacillates between eating very well to hardly anything. Sometimes only will eat only about 6 to 10 bites of dry and will always refuse wet...even
baby food. I assist feeding (swipe wet food on side of his mouth) at those times usually around 2 1/2 meals back to back.
It's quick and he is very forgiving but he hates this. The vet today said that as long as he eats SOMETHING even a little in 24 hours he will be fine. I think this contradicts the opinion of you. I will follow your lead. Should I continue assisting as I have been twice a day if needed?
Try some fancy feast gravy pate which he might eat?

@Susan and Toby
Susan since you switched you need to put that on your signature after you have Lantus you need to put/ Toujeo and the date , also on your spreadsheet up top where you have Lantus do the same thing. I see you noted that on the spreadsheet which is good

I see Wendy has commented on some of your other posts

What I mentioned in your previous posts is that we don't have any experience with Toujeo here, so don't know how it reacts and what that means about when you need to feed. Did the vet say anything about typical onset or nadirs with Toujeo?

I do know that cats need to eat enough calories or they are in danger of hepatic lipidosis (fatty liver disease) if they go too long without eating enough. Did the vet give you anything to treat possible nausea and/or an appetite stimulant?

Vet is hopeful that this will turn things around for him. She only said that readings will be consistent throughout the day...no highs or lows. I need to ask more questions, specifically the ones that you asked.
He has been on Miratazipine, Cerenia and Zofran for a long time.

Maybe with testing you can figure out the onset and nadir for Toby, but it would be good to have a hint where to look.
