Hello All,
I had to take Bubba to the doctor today because his face looked irritated and he was scratching. The doctor said its probably an allergic reaction to something, did you introduce anything new? I did, Fancy Feast Turkey and Giblets Classic. He said to stop giving it to him so I asked if since his numbers look good can I try putting him back on the canned Hills KD, he says sure. Bubba ate about half a can and I decided to check his blood, 190. I didn't give him any insulin, is that ok? And should I keep food away from him for the rest of the night? He's a hungry little guy and I'd hate to do it, he's screaming at me right now because I took the food away from him. Do you think this will correct itself without insulin and how often should I check his blood to see if it goes up any higher over night? And what is the number when I should give him the Prozinc, I use the Relion. Or should I just wait it out? I can't believe I did this. Another thing, tomorrow morning I start him on liquid Amoxicillin, is this going to do something to his numbers? Thanks, Merry

I would give it a cycle or two with lower carb food and see if he comes down. If, with the antibiotic, he stays in the 100s, then you could try a mini dose.

Has he always been on the Turkey and Giblets? You could another flavor, without turkey, to see if it helps with the allergy.

He was eating the FF turkey for years until they wanted to be proactive with his kidneys and switched to the canned KD for about 2 years. When he was diagnosed with diabetes last month he went on the canned prescription low carb. Last week after reading that the FF turkey was good for him, I switched him back. I figured the diabetes was the result of me giving him the dry KD instead of the canned. Thank you, I'll wait and see what happens. I actually thought this diabetes business was behind us,

Ok Thanks, I worry that he's going to have kidney problems. I'm going to get the special diet today. His sugar has came down some more, I checked it again this afternoon after the antibiotic and it was 75. I am just so glad I found this site and all of the wonderful experienced people. I really don't know what I would have done. Thank you.

Change food about 20-25% per day to reduce the chances of GI problems (vomiting, diarrgea, inappectance) and to allow you to observe the impact on the glucose levels and adjust dose if needed.

Thanks, I just gave him about 1/4 can of the Friskies SD so I'll just give him the FF for the rest of the night. I'll check his blood in about an hour.
