Diagnosed today- 1st shot at vet bad for 12 hour time

Hello, my cat was just diagnosed this afternoon, I doing as much research as I can and learning how to use this forum. But I have a important first question.

The vet gave him a first does of insulin (1 unit Lantus) at 1:30pm. This really throws off the 12 hour thing since I don't want to have to give him a dose at 1:30 in the morning. I also don't want to accidentally over dose and drop his levels too much. What should I do???

That was really dumb of your vet. Mine specifically told me that he could give it on diagnosis afternoon if I wanted him to, but that it was better to do the first injection that evening at the appropriate time that works for me.

Good luck with Night , you have really found the best group of people who know more than most vets do when it comes to diabetes.
I wouldn't be where I am today with Tyler if it wasn't for this wonderful family

Welcome. Do you have a glucose meter for testing? That’s very strange if your vet. My vet had me drop Max off in the morning. He gave him the first shot and watched him testing all day to see how he responded.
