Hi all

My cat is a diabetic cat and we have given 1unit Lantus by twice daily. The blood level was between 80 to 135 and he had been eating Fancy Feast can food Chicken. (We are in Japan, the name is different in US)

A few days ago, he was diagnosed Struvite crystals and he needs to change the food Fancy to Hills diet can food (c/d). All the sudden, the BG level went up to 300. Do you know any can food which is a good for a diabetic cat with Struvite crystals? Please let me know. Thank you

my cat wheezer had struvite crystals a long time ago. he was put on dry CD for a few months (before he was diabetic and we knew no different) and it did resolve the crystals. we then went to wet food after that then lo carb cause then he became diabetic.. I do not know what other food is out there. never had another problem.

maybe see what the ingredients are and see if you can find something close to the % in there.
I did that with my other cat that had oxylate crystals and found a food in the store that was close to vet RX but later after surgery put him on wet also

Hill's m/d may work for you. My civvie was given c/d for struvite crystals and it worked well for her. However, my diabetic would get into the food and his BG would sky rocket. I talked to my vet about the problem and she discovered that Hill's m/d has the same target urinary pH as the c/d. I switched both cats to m/d for a while and it worked great. Talk to your vet about m/d.

You might find it helpful to read dr Pierson's take on urinary crystals at Cat Info - Urinary Tract Health

Also, adding some water to the canned food increases water intake and helps keep urine dilute. Crystals are more likely to ocurr in concentrated urine.
