Hi everyone,

A couple of years ago my kitty Bubba displayed diabetes symptoms. Urine testing confirmed, after switching to a wet diet spread throughout the day his symptoms disappeared. After getting sick this past year our now 13 yr old DSH has come out of remission. We knew it would happen, we had to stimulate his appetite by giving him back his beloved dry food and supplementing with CatSip. We have taken his dry food away, and recently removed the CatSip as well. He's super mad at us, but it's for his own good. We are home testing his BG and his numbers are varying between 320 and 520. He has a vet apt on Thursday to start insulin and to make sure the infection he had (vet gave him Convenia last month for it) is cleared up.
We've taken so much away from him, treats, and other favorites and have been trying diabetic safe treats, but he turns his nose up at anything freeze dried and doesn't care much for meat (go figure). His favorite thing is dairy. Cheese, cottage cheese and cat milk being his favorites. Though it is protein there are also hidden sugars. We have taken away his cat milk b/c of this but are looking for other dairy based goodies that are safe for him. What dairy options are safe for a diabetic cat? Any help is greatly appreciated. I have only recently joined and over the next few weeks will be working on my signature and a SS. Thanks and God bless all of you.

I'm looking for suggestions for something that we can give him on the weekends as his special treat instead of the CatSip we removed from his diet.

I haven't checked with a vet in years about this, probiotic yogurt extra bland flavor was okay. Two of our civvies get tiny bits of cream cheese as a rare treat.

I give live culture plain goat kefir. They love it, and the live cultures mean there's little to no sugar left from the milk. It also helps if they have upset stomachs. I also have a civvie cat who needs to lose a few pounds, and he gets a tablespoon of live culture goat yogurt on a lick mat while his sugar cat brother gets his post-shot snack.
