Diabetic neuropathy hope?

I am just so concerned about my Georgie's legs. The neuropathy started in his front legs and this week I have noticed his back legs starting to severely weaken. Will this condition get better once his numbers steady and get lower?
 
Yep neither Autumn or Cali could stand when I first took them in but both are back up on their toes and running around the house again.

Good to hear that. I've been real down about that and needed some reassurement. I thought his legs would start to get better since treatment started but as you have said before it is a marathon and not a sprint.
 
Hi,

My Bertie had really bad neuropathy when he was diagnosed. But he recovered completely.
Nerves do heal slowly though. So it can take a wee while to see progress.

Are you giving methyl B12/methylcobalamin? Many of us have found that it can really help.

Also, in some cats, leg weakness can be caused by (or exacerbated by) potassium deficiency. (If a cat is peeing a lot they can excrete too much potassium from the system).

Here's hoping your kitty feels much better soon.

Yes I am giving the cat feline B12 supplement and yes he is peeing a lot! I notice more urine when he has higher numbers. Thanks for the words of encouragement and I am happy that your Bertie recovered!
 
If he is still urinating copiously, maybe have the vet check his potassium levels.
 
If possible, I'd get him in. If the potassium is low, a simple supplement will help him walk better.
 
I will make an appointment for Thursday and let you know the results. His legs seem to be getting worse and it's really hard to watch. I will try anything that will help him- and that is safe of course.
 
Not really, I guess. I have hard wood floors and it's still a bit cold out so they aren't warm either. He sometimes still gives a little noise when I prick his paw for testing so I think there is still some feeling. His front paws were the first to bend funny and this last week I have noticed his back paws bending funny too. He usually stops to sit on his way anywhere. Will thursday be okay for his appointment or is this an emergency situation?
