Is anyone aware of a diabetic-friendly high calorie nutritional supplement? Howie continues to lose weight with no explanation available. My critter sitter sent me info on a supplement but the first ingredient is corn syrup. That certainly won't work!

I found this one with the list of ingredients on the website but have no idea if any of them are code for high carb. https://miraclevet.com/products/weight-gainer?variant=40322642181

Thanks!

Most products contain sugar in some form.

Ask your vet if this product is suitable: https://oxbowanimalhealth.com/product/critical-care-carnivore/

Low B12 levels can result in weight loss. The vet can do a blood test to check levels. Treatment is cyanocobalamin. I give my cat the injectable version but another post here on FDMB mentioned a liquid form bought from Chewy.

No dental issues that you are aware of?

Have you tried giving kitten formula foods? They tend to be higher fat, which is what you want. I've also seen a raw food website suggest mixing a little unsalted butter into food for extra fat. The Weruva's are pretty lean. How many calories is Howie eating per day?

Your last post on weight issues you said his B12 levels were normal. But you also said you had discussed IBD or SCL with your vet. Small cell lymphoma kitties can have their only symptom as weight loss, in spite of eating sufficient calories. Budesonide by itself is only part of the solution if SCL is present.

His B12 was slightly low when we checked in Nov so he's taking 200mg of folic acid each day as suggested. I will check out the link you sent...thank you! He has no teeth so no dental issues!

I haven't considered kitten formula or butter but will definitely check into what I can find! Should he actually eat all his mini meals (which he rarely does unless I'm home/awake) he gets about 260 calories every 24 hrs. He's eating so slowly because of all his issues with swallowing that I don't know that he'll eat more at breakfast and supper. I have to follow him around the kitchen with his plate to get him to eat. I switched some flavors up (similar calorie count) to see if he was bored with his food, but he didn't seem interested in the change. I can't remember...can SCL be diagnosed with an ultrasound? With his stage 4 heart murmur, I know the vet didn't want to put him under for a biopsy. Thank you, Wendy!

No SCL cannot be diagnosed with just an ultrasound, though there might be clues that lean that way. An alternative is a ultrasound guided biopsy of the lymph nodes, if swollen, and the results send off for PARR testing. That tests for clonality, ie. cancer. That could be done with just sedation. Neko's SCL diagnosis was not done via biopsy because her heart did not permit anaesthesia. But there were clues in her ultrasound that made it more likely.
