Hey all,

I know I haven't posted in what seems like ages!!!

Nemo's lantus has finally started working quite well....too well I suppose since he now weighs 18.5lbs :o Does anyone know of any low calorie wet foods that are also good for diabetics? It seems as though any low calorie food has a very high amount of carbs which I know to avoid.

Thanks in advance!

Hi Deb,

I checked them both before and that's where I keep seeing that with lowering the calories the carbohydrates seem to skyrocket. He really needs to drop a few pounds but I do NOT want to jeopardize his bg!! Right now he eats 1/2 can with each meal and it's mixed with a bit of grain free dry food. How much do other cats eat per meal? I'd consider home cooking for him if that's better! Heck, he'd eat better than me  And I did it for my old dog for years!!

Of course the vet recommends prescription food that he hates and costs about $70 a case!!

Well, as Dr. Lisa would say....too heavy, feed less.

I would cut back on the dry food mixed in, for starters. It's very calorie dense.

You can mix in a bit of water. Thins the food and kitty will feel full on less food.

Then....reduce the amount by 5-10 % at a time, every couple of weeks.
Never do drastic food reductions all at once.

Instead of adding dry food, I'd add some lean protein. If cats react anything like people - More protein, makes you feel full faster and lasts longer, plus helps burn fat.
