I believe that happened to me once at the beginning, try downloading THE SPREADSHEET again from Google Drive, I believe that should help, I have the SS in my favorites, so I just click on it, hope this helps

Are you using a phone/tablet? We have no idea why that happens and Google has been totally useless in helping to find a fix, but usually, the "view only" only stays for a short time (from hours to days).

If you have access to a PC, you should be able to update your spreadsheet without problems (as long as you're signed into Google)

Like Chris said, this is an error that is peculiar to the Google Sheets App and resolves on its own. I saw a post by someone saying that if you reinstall the app, you don't get the error, but I haven't tried that.
