My diabetic cat is vomiting as she did when she was first diagnosed. Anything I can do until I can get her to the vet? Would a bit more insulin help?

She has been diagnosed for about 18 months. She receives 2 units of prozinc twice a day. She is drinking a ton. Just took her level after she injection and a little food she is at 468 (Walmart meter). A couple of weeks ago I moved her feed time back a bit.

Is there any chance it was a scarf and barf??

Sometimes our kitties eat too fast and it comes right back up....best thing to do in that case is just give them a break and then offer a teaspoon or two at a time with a break in between so we don't do it again.

Hope it's nothing more serious! If she continues to vomit, I'd get her into see the vet

As for her dose, it would really help if you'd start charting her test results into our spreadsheet program. We all really depend on it as it helps us identify the "patterns" we look for when making dosing decisions.

You don't ever want to give more insulin sooner than every 12 hours though.

Here's Instructions on Getting the spreadsheet....but if you have problems with it, just let us know! We can help!

Have you tested her for ketones?
I hope she is feeling better and eating and keeping her food down, now.

Hey there ~when you say vomiting, is your cat exhibiting forceful abdominal contractions like when there is a hair ball? Or is sudden right after eating with no body contractions?

Since every cat is different, my Smokey vomits bile and or foam when he is running high numbers for an extended period of time. It took me a long time to put the two together. He never vomits food or hairball. Also his vomiting can be caused by gastroparesis which can be from diabetes. Feeding him smaller amounts throughout the day worked. First every 2 hours for weeks. Then as he started becoming regulated was able to increase the time between meals, however slowly. Now he is fed 7am, +3, +6. Then start again at 7pm, +3, +6 (this depends on if I have to work in the morning). This took a year to get under control. But no vomiting for 3 months now.
