Charlotte & Prop

Active Member
My diabetic (now in remission) cat Prop has diarrhea, her sister got it two days ago and went to the vet. The vet gave me some Pro-kolin+ to give to her. Is it ok to give that to Prop as well? I am affraid to give her something if there is a high number of carbs in it.
Here is a link to the product:

And then I wonder what could be wrong since both of then have it. Berta my civie got diarrhea, were troughing up and lost appetite thursday nigth. Since the vet visit friday morning, she is a lot better and got her appetite back. The vet gave mig intestinal dry food for her, but since it has a high carb. I can't feed that to Prop. What can I feed Prop to help her get better fast?

Sorry for my spelling :)

Hi Charlotte.

FortiFlora helps with diarrhea and is okay for diabetics. I'd ask your vet first, though, if it is okay to give.

Sorry you haven't had many takers, Charlotte. Your first post was 4am our time so be patient and check back in later today.

The only time Niko and Oliver ever got diarrhea was with a food change. I do know foods with gluten often cause problems in some cats - an allergy issue. Beef was always a trigger for Oliver. This may be a problem since I think you had some trouble getting low carb food in Denmark to start with. Since both cats showed the problem at the same time, could food be the culprit?

I hope someone will have an idea about the medication the vet suggested. Sorry, no experience here.

I know Sue that it was in the middle of the night, but with some thinking my title was not really good :)

It could be the food, but only at one meal the two cats eats the same food. I will have to figure it out.

I don't know what fortiflora is, but i will google it. Thanks :)

Here's Dr. Lisa's take on Fortiflora. She is considering it as an appetitite enhancer, but it is also a probiotic:

Try a product called FortiFlora. Most cats LOVE FortiFlora and this has recently become my favorite trick. This is a probiotic made by Purina but you are not going to use it for its probiotic properties. You are just going to use it as a flavor enhancer. The base ingredient in FortiFlora is animal digest - the very substance that makes dry food so very enticing to cats. The directions say to use 1 package/day - and you can use this much if you want to - but this amount is not usually necessary. You may only need ~1/4 of a package - or less - with part mixed into the food and part sprinkled on top of the food just as you would use salt and pepper on your own food.

I think people are able to buy it through Amazon.com

Thanks I will try to get it.
Unfortunately when I buy stuff from the US I sometimes have to pay a lot in costum (i think it is called) Just bought bayer contour sticks on Ebay and had to pay 40 dollars just to get them, not in delivery, but in some kind of fee or something that is put on when you buy on the net out of your own country.
