Diabetic Cat with Diarreah - What to do?

Alright, I haven't been around for awhile and all had been going great with my Smokie. In January he was diagnosed with diabetes and we have been able to maintain on wet food with no insulin. I have been feeding him 3 or 4 different flavors or Friskies Pate's. This past weekend we noticed his poop was really stinky and today I have confirmed he has diarrhea. Anything I can do? I plan to call the vet in the morning. What does this mean? Why were things going great and then this happens? Argh! I read that maybe we need to try the Fancy Feast Classics instead?

Thanks once again for the advice... :)

First, as you've planned, rule out medical problems with your vet. Inflammatory bowel disease may cause diarrhea, as may various infectious agents.

After that, there are a number of options which may be helpful. Test 1 at a time and start with small amounts, in case of adverse reactions.

Benefiber - soluble fiber - 1/4 tsp per meal
psyllium - insoluble fiber - 1/4 tsp per meal
FortiFlora - start with small amount sprinkled over meal (too much may stimulate binge eating)
yogurt with active cultures - again, small amounts at first, as some cats react poorly to milk products, even those 'pre-digested' by the lactobacillus

Thank you! I have a call in to the vet and hoping we can solve this without a trip there, he gets VERY stressed when we have to make that trip. I should have added that there have been approximately 4 bouts of diarreah, and all have been contained to the box. He has vomited a couple times, just a little liquid at about 3am last night. Thank you for the tips, he loves yogurt.... so that will be an easy sell... lol! I will try these slowly. Otherwise he seems fine, a little lethargic but eating and not showing signs of high blood sugar. Hoping to hear back from the vet this morning.... thank you again! I didn't sleep well last night because of the little guy.... he is my special guy. :-)
