Please help! My cat was diagnosed with diabetes the end of May. I was originally giving her Nulo dry with Weruva wet before her diagnosis (Nulo being a high meat content, low glycemic index carbs and Weruva great for diabetics). Anyways, after diagnosis we put her on a freeze dried raw formula. She did well and was put on 2 1/2 units with a curve of the highest of 260 and lowest of 180. Which was good for her ( when she first came into the vet it was high 300s). About a month ago she had pancreatitis and we got that under control. Now I cannot get her sugar back down to what it was. They think she could have IBD or lymphoma (I won't put her through surgery for complete diagnosis). we want to start her on a steroid but can't do this until I get her blood sugar under control. It has now been high 300s high 400s with the lowest point being 350. Could her insulin (Lantus) not be effective anymore? She's on a no carb diet and I have slowly increased her insulin from 2 1/2 to now 4. Please help. I don't know what else to do!

Hi and welcome!
I am not one of the experts but I can try to give a bit of support and ask some questions so the experts can help you get better control.
I am a bit surprised that with the highest reading of 260 you began with 2.5 units BID --I am not sure how quickly you raised the dose but often it is raised to quickly and a "good" dose is overlooked. We increase by .25 units and we hold the dose for at least 6 cycles (a cycle is 12 hours)
We base our adjustments on the nadir (lowest point of cycle usually mid cycle but not always ) and not the pre shot number.
As much as I think raw is awesome I have found the freeze dried causes more issues with my boys poop-he does ok with wild side salmon treats and pure bites chicken,
Are you home testing? Type of meter you are using? Home testing is critical and can save your kittys life-

I do want to caution you on the steroid as it can often induce diabetes-
I also have a cat with either IBD or lymphoma and like you I am not going to sedate for a biopsy (he is 17 and non diabetic)
However I did treat with pred 5 mg BID and although his poop was much better he went into heart failure....he is ok and we have now got him off the pred and on budesonide as well as a few other meds.

I am going to tag one of our experts although I am not sure who is online....if you put a "?" in your thread title you will get more "eyes" on you to help.
Good luck! This forum has invaluable advice....:bighug:

We also are having a hard talk me getting regulated...just when we think we might have it, ruckus has other ideas and we start all over...hang in there....
