Hi all!

Hope all is well. I have a diabetic cat, Lilli. She's 15 years old and was diagnosed with diabetes a year and a half ago. She has been in remission since a year and is being fed "Animonda diabetic" wet food only.

She recently started vomiting often, so I brought her for a check up and they said her intestines are thickened due to an inflammation. Now they did a gastroscopy and we are waiting for the results.

However, she seems to be doing a lot better to be honest! Vomiting is less frequent and she seems overall healthy.

First question is - could it be the long-term diabetic diet that has caused her this? Second question is what your suggestions for a not veterinary low carb diet is considering European brands as I am in Italy.

Could you give me your suggestions? Thanks in advance! Hope your kitties are safe and happy :)

I'm going to suggest you do a bit of observation. Was Lilli vomiting/having bowel issues with a particular flavor of food?

IF she has inflammatory bowel disease, you may want to try novel proteins. For example, I had been feeding my kitties chicken and turkey variety foods. One of my cats developed IBD which is like an allergy to those foods. I switched the cats to foods they had no experience eating. I ended up using a raw food and/or a combination of raw (pork, venison, bison) and a canned food (venison, lamb, lamb and rabbit) that was new to their diet. There were some other components of the treatment but the diet change is often what is recommended. If you opt for a raw food approach, you will need to add supplements to make sure the diet is nutritionally complete. We can direct you to information on what's needed.

Thank you both! I had been using "Animonda Diabetic" varying between chicken, rabbit and beef. I am still feeding her that and really don't know what I should try.

I bought this one: https://shop.dogsitter.it/forza-10/...-3XxRIoZgwusEWyxByNUZaCVg4rS05uoaAgSJEALw_wcB

which is based on fish. She hasn't been pooping much now... I don't know which food to try. We are not experienced enough to try with a raw food diet. DO you have any good recommendations that can be purchased made?

Thank you!
