Hello,
Does anyone have a cat who has diabetes and megaesophagus? Or does anyone have a cat who has diabetes and is on Medrol? I have read about megaesophagus a lot, but I am wondering do you have any extra advice? We do have the special feeding table already. And if someone is giving Medrol to their cat then how has your diabetic cat done on that medication? How many milligrams do you give to your cat and how many times a day? My vet said to give 1 mg once a day (my cat is 21 lbs), but I have read that I should give 1 mg twice a day and he has put my cat on this medication permanently. Do you mash the tablet and put it in their food? Are your cats with megaesophagus on any other medications? I have read that Medrol can cause diabetes, but what if my cat is diabetic already?
Thanks in advance

Medrol can cause diabetes, but what if my cat is diabetic already?
If the cat needs to stay on the Medrol insulin dose may need to be adjusted around it (it does affect BG levels).

Did your vet say whether the megaoesophagus might be due to a neuropathy problem caused by the diabetes?

Hello,
Mu vet didn't search for the cause. I just know that it is not congenital and it is not due to neuropathy. I suspect that it is because of reflux or because of being several times under anesthesia (my cat would not let to touch him without it). Once he was under anesthesia after eating.
I have noticed that he has started to drink more. Before shot numbers are lower than normally, but midday numbers are much higher.
His megaesophagus is such a big problem that it makes it hard for him to breathe. He is breathing 34-40 times a minute.
If anyone has any other ideas then let me know.
Thank you!

Normal resting respiration rate should be in the 20s. I think the safest and wisest thing to do right now is to ask your vet to see Sassu today. Always better to err on the side of caution.

I know and my vet knows. It has been like this for months. My vet says it is because megaesophagus pushes against the airway and there is nothing to do about it.
