My cat Misha has been in remission from diabetes for almost two years (yay!). He (and my other cat) were just diagnosed with UTIs and elevated kidney enzymes in their blood. The vet wants them on Hills k/d for the rest of their lives (they're 16, and otherwise in good shape). This is about $150/month which I can't afford. I know I need to find food with low phosphorus...any tips on how to balance Misha's diabetes related nutritional requirements with the new kidney requirements?

Also there's a support group associated with Tanya's Site (link in left hand column on home page). There are a lot of very knowledgeable people in the group and they should also be able to help with practical advice on what to feed. If you post lab details the very experienced people there can review them with you.

I would love to know about food choices with this. I was just told by vet that my boy Sonny is in the "VERY EARLY STAGES" of kidney disease. He right now eats low carb friskies pates to control the diabetes...but now what???
