Hi every one. My diabetic kitty's name is Mish Mish. I am a veterinary assistant/office manager at a small animal clinic in NYC. Mish was brought in for euthanasia as his owner did not wish to pursue treatment. BG was over 800
I had her sign him over to me and after two months, he went into remission with BG levels steadily under 180. Our of nowhere, after a nap, he woke up with complete third eyelid prolapse in one eye. I brought him to work and Dr suspected injury to eye and gave NeoPolyDex drops. I was hesitant due to the steroid and sure enough after 3 applications, BG is 226 this morning. Does anyone have experience with NSAID eye drops? Right now I am stopping and just using homeopathic and plain antibiotic ointment. Also, does anyone have experience with a steroid usage sugar spike? How long does it take to see normal readings? I gave the last application this morning.

I do not recall any previous post on using steroid eye drops. However there have been some with using steroid containing ear meds. They do tend to raise BG/insulin needs. However, not all steroids are equal. The steroid in TresaDerm is very potent and raised BG/insulin needs a lot.

Eye drops are very specific so it is hard to suggest something, it depends on many issues like if the infection is viral or bacterial or if fungus are present, if there's ulcers or not I would ask the vet for another option, is he having some other symptoms because it's quite a raise from eye drops could he be having an infection or something else?, and stopping the med can cause the problem to come back if there was an infection

I also had the same experience with eye drops with Bella and his BG spikes, the drops were steroids so I stopped them
