Hello everyone,
My Wesley is in diabetic remission, so this post is actually unrelated. I am currently desperate for help as he is in his third bout of serious constipation that has now turned into megacolon. He has had many enemas just this week and we are still struggling to get him to pass stool due to a motility issue. He is on 7.5 mg of Cisapride 3x daily (likely will increase) and subq fluids to treat this. He had been eating Hills Gastrointestinal Microbiome canned food.
We can’t seem to get this issue under control; it keeps recurring and I’m scared we are coming dangerously close to him needing surgery. His current food is high in fiber, and I’ve been reading that a low residue and low fiber diet is generally better for megacolon. Does anyone have any experience in this area? Is low residue the same as low fiber? Lastly, I would LOVE some low res and/or fiber canned food recommendations. I don’t know where to start and googling it isn’t giving me much. Thank you in advance for advice all if you provide. I am terrified of losing him and the vet is very concerned.
