Hi everyone! I recently got a new glucometer for my kitty. It is the Bayer contour usb. This one needs to be set up and I was wondering if you all could help me. It has an option to set up the target ranges for testing to categorize his levels. There is an option for the desired range pre-shot and after food. (which I would like to set up for 6 hours post shot. I've read different things about what levels a cat should be at. My vet said 6 - 10 at nadir but I have read much different.

Can anyone help me to set this up by providing me with the desired target ranges for Preshot and Nadir? Thanks :)

Do you use metric or US numbers? Using US numbers, we consider a cat regulated if they are in the mid 200s at preshot and under 100 at nadir, but not below 40. We suggest new diabetics not shoot under 200, but wait 20 minutes without feeding and retest. Food raises bg levels so you want the number without food. You want a second test to be sure the number is rising, not falling and that it is over 200 and safe to shoot. 40 is a near hypo number and requires giving carbs and perhaps sugars to help the number go up.

After you collect data, you can shoot under 200. But at first, you can't be sure what the insulin will do.

I dont know if you need to bother - all it does is beep differently when the blood is outside of the range - I have one and I set up the ranges but i just ignore the beeps ;)
