My cat had dental surgery in the past few years. Since then, he hasn't had any cleanings, etc. or dental work. Is there a reason for good dental health in (esp.) diabetic cats? His teeth do look like they need a good cleaning...

Yes, any infection can spike BG. He could have gingivitis minimum or worse. Definitely worth having the vet look at and because you did blood work recently he won't need it again before the cleaning.

Any source of inflammation (such as from gingivitis) or infection or pain (which can result from resorptive lesions) can cause higher BG numbers. It can be harder to regulate a cat who is having any of the aforementioned problems.

This is information on dental procedures.
