Cedric has taken this for small dogs a couple of times. Today, Dallas was sent home with it, only they gave me the medium dog size (Dallas is 14lbs, Cedric is 13). they opened one already and to be honest, I AM LIVID! this pill is HUGE! I would have a problem swallowing it! I have no clue how they got it down his throat, except for the fact that he's hopped up on meds!

As I try to settle my anger down (I already left them a message about how angry I am) has anyone else had experience with this drug in this size with their cat? am I getting steamed for no reason?

I will have to cut it in the very least, unless they give me the smaller ones. This pill is for dogs between 13 and 34 lbs! My cat is 14.8! (Yes, I am still pissed)
Right now I'd pound the damn thing into oblivion and put it on his food, if I had the instraments. great idea!
edit: i forgot he has to take it on an empty stomach, 1 hour before food, so that won't work. I am left with cutting it into pieces or getting them to give me the smaller dose. Still cat(2)_steam
 
Denamarin should not be cut or broken up. It has an enteric coating that allows it to dissolve in the correct portion of the digestive tract for absorption where it is needed. It's pretty worthless if this coating is not intact.
 
Talk to a pharmacist to see if there is a way to divide the pill and put it in a capsule that could delay release.

Go to the company's website and see what dose options are possible.
 
doctor's response to my angry VMMs was that they have given this dose to cats of Dalla's size (14.8lbs) before. Cedric was 13.2, but got the smaller dose. he said it could be cut but that Dallas took it fine yesterday. I was told that I could exchange the more expensive box for the smaller box, but I don't think he is going to give me two of the smaller dose, even though that is what the manufacturer recomends.

i called back and said that this was not acceptable. I said I was going to think about what he said (vet tech left a VMM on my phone while I was int he bathroom), but that I was having another vet look into the matter for me. I also said taht since I pre-paid for Cedric's well ness plan, I would need to be refunded that $400+ dollars if I left them.
 
Honestly, I don't bother with Denamarin...if my cats (or dogs) needs it...I buy it in liquid form as Milk Thistle and Sam-E. Same thing, less expensive and I alway prefer liquid to pills.
 
Dallas did get the pill down without too much issue last night. I did call the vet tech to let her know and apoligize again for being so angry, but I am quite concerned about giving the cat such a large pill. I would like to look in to those over the counter medications, and hop Debbie's boss gets back to me later today.

I'd also like to figure out why both my cats seem to be having liver issues...food, water, or something else? I am not much of a house cleaner (meaning, the title doesn't get waxed every week, lol) so I am not sure what kind of cleaning supplies they would have access to...
 
The digestive system is inter-related and problems in 1 organ may cause problems in another.

Sudden weight loss, for example, may result in fat overwhelming the liver. This, in turn, makes it difficult for the liver to work properly. That then affects digestion, which affects absorption, which affects the output and so forth.
