Hello,
My female cat is eleven, showing no signs of diabetes except some neuropathy. Taking BG at various times of the day, she ranges from 200 to 140. I spoke to my vet and she feels not inclined to start insulin regimen in fear of hypoglycemia. She is on a raw no carbo diet. Any thoughts?
Thanks in advance.

Feeding mini-meals - dividing the food into several meals, rather than just 2, may reduce the workload on the pancreas and help keep the glucose levels more even.

Vet stress may elevate the glucose from 100 to 180 mg/dL, so no, I wouldn't be inclined to give insulin at those levels.

Have you made sure the raw is complete nutritionally? See Cat Info for an example recipe, written by Vet Lisa Pierson.

How are the teeth? Dental infection will elevate glucose levels.
Bladder, respiratory, or any infection may raise glucose levels.

Were the blood tests done at the vet? My non diabetic cat has tested over 200 at the vet but 53 at home where he is less stressed. Was a blood panel done to rule out other issues? Thyroid issues can also impact the blood glucose.
