Hi All,
I've been so side tracked with Tidus and the hurricane I haven't had a chance to update you all on Mikey. Some of you might remember a few months ago (July) he went back on insulin due to being prescribed prednisone after coming down with bronchitis after having mouth surgery. Well, the same "signs" (gagging/choking/pawing at his mouth) that made me take Mikey in for the mouth surgery then led me to take him to my vet this past Thursday. Xrays of his mouth and chest were taken. The xrays show a small white spot on his lung and a weird "dark spot" in his abdomen/intestine(not sure how the chest xray showed that) Anyway, that led to a second xray to verify "the spot" (that was still there the next day) to which led to an ultrasound that showed the dark spot, possible foreign body. Since it has not moved in 2 days they suggested exploratory surgery. Mikey was to have the surgery late Saturday afternoon. Let me just add, while all this was happening I was in Quincy, MA pet sitting for another diabetic cat! The anesthesia was started and Mikey crashed immediately. Lucky I told them "NO" to DNR and they gave him CPR and revived him. Right now he is "ok".
There is "something" off with him. The xrays show nothing but he is definitely not feeling well. I was told the chest xray would show asthma, pneumonia, bronchitis but it was negative. I'm baffled because he sounds congested. They gave him nebulizer treatments which lead me to believe he has some type of breathing issue. This evening I sat in a steam shower with him and that seemed to help. My vet is closed until Wednesday due to the hurricane but will be talking to him extensively about what he thinks is going on. Mikey also needs a repeat chest xray and ultrasound. I had mentioned to the surgeon if the "dark spot" in his intestine could be an intussusception, she said it's not common in cats? If anyone had any thoughts I would appreciate the info.
Also we have a chip in for him. He didn't even have surgery and the bill was $3000! If any one can donate to help pay his bill we are truly grateful!
