Martha was steady yellows there for awhile, now she's low in the mornings 145, 176, 136 and still yellow at night. When she was 176 I gave her 1 unit Lantus and she was still high (217) that evening. There is no rhyme or reason for numbers like these. Is there? I'll be home today so hoping to do some mid-cycles.

136 this morning,no insulin. She is now at 165 at +5.
Should I have even bothered doing this mid-cycle check since she had no insulin this am.?

Yes, that mid-cycle test today was very good information to get. Especially since you did not give any insulin. We are seeing the effects of the food only.

The number only went up a tiny bit by +5, so we know the food only raised her number by 29 points.

Looks to me like her pancreas may be doing a little bit of the work, and helping out a bit to keep those numbers lower.

ETA: Would you please add the meter you use for testing to your signature?

Someone on another DM group teaches we should not do mid-cycles when we don't give insulin. But you had a very valid point, I think, and one that gives me more encouragement.
Martha is worth anything and everything I have to do, so when I asked What's the Use? I didn't mean to imply that I was going to throw her to the wolves (so to speak).
I am not sure the value of knowing the food influence, except not to feed her anything high carb, which I don't. Is there any way to use food to lower her bg's?

Beyond feeding the lowest carb wet food your cat will eat, and spreading out the food into multiple small meals each day, I don't know of any other ways to feed differently that would have much impact on the BG numbers.
