Dante is here w/me. We arrived home @ 10:45am.
He is quite thin and his coat is dull&dry. No surprise there.
He drank ALOT of water. 11am gave him some canned & added water- about 4oz, 1/2MD & 1/2 9Lives chicken. 2:45 he ate another 4oz.

I think he's been on MD dry, but they gave me some MD canned.

And my bad- he never had any curves done.
Here is the only info I have:
DX'd 7-6-12 BG "HI" (@vet)Rx 1u PZI BID
7-17-12 no insulin b4 test, BG 482 (@vet)
as of 8-29 he had been 2u PZI, but don't really know for sure when they upped the dose.

No insulin today.

I am going to do my best to get a BG on him tonite, so I'll jump on here w/the results. May wait til morn to start on the Levemir, to be sure the PZI is out of his system.

Any thoughts/suggestions on dosing ranges will greatly be appreciated

Just remember that PZI is a fast insulin and is considered OUT by 12 hours so he shouldn't have any in his system if you didn't give any this morning. You can start this evening no problem.

Glad he is there, eating canned food with no problem, and (hopefully) ready to start the testing so he can start feeling better

Keep us posted!

Sorry...

As for dose... 1u is usually a starting point. With the only 2 tests you have numbers for they are high and most likely eating dry food the whole time. Once you start getting numbers you can see if that is too high a dose once the food has changed to something low carb and wet.

Hi Shari -

Welcome to you and to Dante! Congrates Dante on your new home! (BTW, I LOVE the name!).

I agree with Heather, starting at 1u is a safe place - especially with the food change and until you have some data to work with. We both switched from ProZinc to Lev, and I think you'll probably see the same effect. Once it's gone, it's gone. Unfortunately they didn't have numbers, so it's hard to see it. But from others in PZI, we've seen it fizzle in 8-12 hours. You should be good (although it's probably a moot point now that it's Sunday!)

We're all happy to answer any question you have. We've all been there, with "you name it", so no question should be withheld!

Lu-Ann
