Hi All!
So I am now noticing some dandruff on Sonnys back. It only seemed to appear after changing his food from perscription DM, to Friskies pate (turkey & giblets) which he didnt like, finally to EVO which he seems to enjoy...any reason for this and can i do anything?

You could try adding some Omega Oil to Sonny's diet. My husky had super dry skin and when I added a fish oil supplement it cleared up. Dehydration, hyperT, and a host of issues can cause dander. So if other health issues have been ruled out, then I would add the Omega.

I dont think he is dehydrated...he eats his wet food normally, plays, grooms....he doesnt excessivley drink and pee...maybe 1 pee a day. Feeding him a high quality low carb wet food (EVO). I thought this wet food contains enough water also

Add some more water in his food to make sure he is getting enough water. Where do you live? If you are in the US and the North, heat cat dry everyone's skin out some. Do you have a wood burning stove or fireplace that he likes to lay by while burning? That could cause dryness. Also, check for fleas. Just last week I took two fleas off Bubba and civvie cat, Forrest. They will show signs of dandruff when there are parasites. Bubba had oily looking skin and dandruff when he was first DX but it remedied quickly after starting insulin.

I live in an apartment in NYC. Yes...it is dry here, thats what makes me think the dandruff is caused by dry air. He is strictly an indoor cat. I never noticed any dandruff for the past year and a half almost since he was diagnosed with DM

Two of my cats have it. Has had for years. Both are a little large so it's hard for them to groom that area. It doesn't seem to bother them. I just comb a little and use a kitty shampoo wipe. Our house is damp but not as much as it use to be it's runs about 47-52% humidity in our house. We run a dehumidifier when we shower or the smoke alarms go off, then turn it off. If we dry out to much then I have problems with allergies and asthma. In our previous house it was way to dry less than 20% I had humidifiers going in each room 24/7.

@Woodsywife a kitty shampoo wipe? What brand? I would love to get that!

It claims to be a shampoo. It smells great I think. I'm at work now but will check when I get home. I know I got it at petsmart and the package iS blue and comes like baby wipes refills. Great for traveling and Smokey gets car sick. My vet uses regular baby wipes. Smokey doesn't leave home without them. Actually he has a little travel case I take along with all his essentialS and now that I have the stroller I just keep everything in the extra compartment.

My civie has dandruff.im not sure if it is cause it is so dry In here or what but it drives me nuts!im always brushing her getting it off her and trying to get the oils in her skin going.i put extra water in her food etc.she doesn't wash herself very good anymore and neither does miss kitty so I usually get their fur wet and rub the water off with a paper towel to get dirt etc out of fur some.kind of equal to a tongue bath lol.i use baby wipes on their bottoms too but sable still has dandruff.it is just along her spine and top of sides only.

I've read and not sure how true it is. But more brushing will increase the dandruff. I don't know what the science is behind it.

I comb him once a day and i bought these "Natures Miracle pet wipes" seems to be working pretty well. Still has a bit of it. But not as much

Where did you get those pets wipes at?does your cat have flare ups where it gets bad then gets better for awhile then bad again?
