It has been a very long time since I have had to give Cyproheptadine to stimulate my cat's appetite. I remember with one other cat, he became ravenous after about only about 20 minutes. But I don't think that is always so. How many doses (at 2 mg or 1/2 pill SID or BID) or days in a row can Cyproheptadine take to become effective?

Thanks,
Judy

Hi Judy. I use Cyproheptadine for two of my cats, I give it about 40-45 minutes before mealtime. It works faster in Squallie than it does my civvie girl, but I have no idea why, since he is a lot bigger than her (close to 15 lbs). With her, it can sometimes take almost an hour for it to kick in, and she is tiny, only about 6 lbs..

Rico is 12-13 pounds and for some reason it takes only about 20 minutes to work--
I alternate with mirtz (1 dose of mirtz lasts almost 3 days for him and it elevates his mood but some cats go nutty on it)
