Re: Curves

We also do daily checks which will help you do a mini curve At: amps, +3, +6, pmps, +3 or +4(or bedtime check)--This is the minimum I do spot checks, as I need to know where she is going especially now--Of course, there are days when I work all day & only get amps, pmps, and bedtime check...But collecting data as to where your cat's bg goes over the course of a day, really helps..

Re: Curves 3-13-10 AMPS 190

Thanks Roni and Moonie and Sienne and Gabby.

I have a weekday feeding schedule and a weekend feeding schedule because of work and challenges.
Weekdays. Feed 30-40 cc's in the morning, leave dry out for the day with small amounts ate, Feed about 5:30, 8:00 and 10 PM sometimes a 2:30 a.m. feeding.

On weekends I feed about 30-40 cc's every 4 hours.

BA has pancreatitis which complicates things for her. Since Lantus is long acting should the varied food schedule make less of a difference on BG? Any thoughts.

Thanks,
Sunshine

Many here use a feeding schedule like you are-- I think it will be beneficial for your kitty! Mini feeding are good, but could you not feed 2 hrs before amps and pmps?? Dont know pancreatitis feedings, but getting an accurate ps number would involve some time without food..Could this work for you?
So, you would test before the 8am feeding, that would be good...I'm sure you will get other suggestions from those whose kitties have cp too.
Have a good Caturday!

Small meals throughout the day are very good because the do not cause spikes in BG and do not put a great deal of pressure on a healing pancreas. The kind of feeding schedule you're describing is great - with one exception. Dry food is typically not the best thing to feed. I don't know if you've ever been directed to the website that was developed by a veterinarian, Lisa Pierson, on feline nutrition. Dry food is often high in carbohydrates and/or very poor quality food. If you could either give a little more food at your scheduled feeding times or add another mini-meal and get rid of the dry, you will be doing even better to manage your cat's diabetes.

Thanks for the feedback.
I do AMPS before feeding. Occassionally she has ate a few knibbles just as I wake up, otherwise likely 2 hours before AMPS. Same is likely for PMPS on workdays. I think most of PMPS are w/o food previous 2 hours but will make sure all are.

And an excellent Caturday right back at you!

Thanks Sienne, that makes me feel better. The dry food is for when I'm at work. I'm gone for almost 10 hours. She won't eat anything else from a dish and really eats minimal of dry! Food has been a serious challenge for her with the chronic pancreatitis. Keeping weight up is very challenging.
