I currently have Charlie on 1/2 unit of Semglee and am planning to do a curve this weekend. I think I will need to raise his dose to either .75 or 1 unit.

Right now he is getting several meals a day because his glucose is not regulated yet. PS numbers are around 300 and mid day reading is closer to 200. I usually feed him just before his shot in the morning, during the middle of the day after testing, at the PM shot and then once more before going to bed. Any suggestions on how to handle his feeding on the day I do the curve? I know we normally recommend testing 2 hours after food, but based on the one test I did yesterday 2 hours after he ate, I am pretty sure it caused his BG to spike. The poor guy is starving right now so that is why he is getting the extra meals. I know that probably will settle down once the BG is under control.

You could do what my vet requested for our Lantus curve, fasted for 12 hours starting after the AM injection, testing every hour for 12 hours!
Kidding.:banghead:
Would it work to give him a little snack after each test? Exactly the same amount of food? If he's starving, and he'll eat it, at least that would be a constant intake for the curve? Hmm.

When doing a curve it’s recommended that you feed as you normally would throughout the day. The only time it’s recommended that you withhold food is 2 hours before shot time, to make sure the preshot number is not food influenced, until you know your cat. The purpose of a curve is to see how your cat respond to insulin on typical day, so feed as you typically would.

I agree that feeding your normal routine when doing a curve is the thing to do.
If he is still starving, maybe he could have two snacks during the cycles instead of the one snack.

Thanks everyone.

This morning he gave me a lower PS than what he has been. So maybe .5 units is starting to work. :D I will know more by this weekend.

The other cats in the house have been slowly trying to introduce themselves to Charlie. Even though he is in the spare bedroom, when I am in there I usually leave the door open. So far Cracker and Mona have ventured into the room and sat close to him. No aggressiveness from any of them other than Charlie hissing a little. :cat:
