We are doing a curve on our girl today and it never dropped? We have done a few and the numbers always drop but her numbers this time are

Pre Shot 283
+2 339
+4 341
+6 365
+8 389
+10 377
Anyone seen anything like this?

Thanks
Kristina

Yes I have seen worse on my MurrFee.
What is dose?
What insulin?
How long on this dose?
What did other curves look like?
Could you have done a fur shot?

We are on 4.5 U/2x day of prozinc for about 4 days. Couldn't have been a fur shot because she will jump over 750 in the 12 hours if we don't get the shot. We have been on Prozinc for about a month and a half raising the doses every week based on the curves. The numbers are still lower but I guess I was expecting to see the drop after the shot like the other ones. She usually drops 50-80 points about 4-6 hours after the injection. Atleast she has on the last four curves. I am pretty sure vet will increase to 5 units since the numbers are still a bit too high but just found this one to be odd.

Her name is Lil- she is eating Fancy Feast (grilled mixed with pate) and boiled chicken mostly - she could probably be eating better but was so underweight from the IBD we have been trying to fatter her up a little - she is on prednisolone for IBD and has liver, kidney and heart disease so she has been tough to get down with far. She started over 750 so we have made some progress but it has taken some time. She is like a new kitty now running around and playing.

Can we help you set up a spreadsheet so we can see her history of dosing and numbers at a glance? I am reluctant to comment until I can see some more numbers.

Here are the directions:

If it sounds too overwhelming to set up, send me a private message (small PM button in the lower left hand corner of this post) and I can set it up for you.

The prednisone can certainly mean higher blood glucose levels. You just have to work around it and have the dose higher. Any other chance of an infection or dental issues?

Not that I can see - she is more active than she has been in months and the numbers are lower but just not curving - I'm gonna set up the spreadsheet now

I think I have the spreadsheet input - let me know if you can see it and what you think - and her last reading dropped to 336 - ????? lol - Since she has dropped a little should I go ahead and give the dose?

Thanks

Kristina

Her curve this time is backwards - she went up and is now coming back down? I am assuming we should go ahead and give her shot since it is still over 300?

Thanks
Kristina

Hard to tell. It is possible that she was still dropping this morning and insulin on top of that gave you a higher flatter curve. A midcycle number at night might help figure out this puzzle - maybe she drops at night and then bounces up? If she were mine, I would give the 4.5 dose a few cycles and see what it does. I think she might be overdosed, but there isn't enough data to know whether that is the case or if it is not enough insulin.

I am not sure about tonight. If she were rising, I would say definitely shoot. I am wondering if she is still headed down and will have a long cycle (over 12 hours) If that is the case (and it could have been this morning) it is posssibly a sign of too much insulin. Can you put off the shot 30 minutes and retest, without feeding? If she is headed down, that tells us the dose may be too high. If she is headed up, then I'd give her the 4.5 and get a before bed test to see where she is headed.
