Curious ... Having to increase dosage? LOT #?

I see Kristen and Sam and Donna and Asher, are increasing doses after going low dosage and getting higher numbers. So are Bud and I.

Just curious about the lot number on your bottle ( I remember Kristen recently got a new one).

I'd also like to know what Holly's and Sue's lot numbers are...

I realize there are a lot of variables here but wondering about the insulin itself.

Bud's lot B100396 exp 5/12.

Good question, Beth.

Your numbers yesterday were particularly strange.

Maybe your vet would be willing to contact PZI for you.

It could possibly be insulin resistance - I have wondered whether after an initial period, PZI requires a BAM - break through - dose to get back into lower numbers.

We are at a distinct disadvantage because we have never had a study that resulted in some "scientific" type of protocol which can guide us when PZI doesn't act in ways we are expecting.

I do go back to the PZI forum on the old board and they were dosing higher numbers with higher doses consistently. Maybe we expect too much too soon?

Things have been 'wierd' for a while. We've had 2 ultrasounds and 2 bloodworks. Everything looked really good. There was an infection a month ago which has cleared. Bud's doing really really well except for the numbers.

It's a real mystery. Looking at Kristen's SS (she's about 2 weeks Dx'd after Bud) I'm wondering if I don't see a similarity with Sam and Bud? Ergo, the lot number question. Thinking more on it, I'm wondering about Lori, too.

I"m almost to the point of thinking about Lev. But LORDY I so don't want to have to learn everything all over again.

We've got a vet appt today ... Bud's blood looks 'pale' and thin. *shrug* Her RBC's always been fine.

Going to get a +7 in about 25 min.

195 @ +7ish... go figure.

RBC was fine. Bud's fine :-)

Took my Relion and it measured 409... Vet's was 411. (tested it with the control and was smack dab middle normal) That should settle any dispute that one cannot use the ReliOn with cats! I expected the high # at the vet's.

Today was a better day for us numbers-wise (so far) but still nothing like the nicer curves we were getting once upon a time.

Our lot # - B100480

Our ProZync bottle is lot # B100389 and it expires 04/2012

Number seems pretty close to yours but it’s not the same.

Today our numbers were crappy. I’m thinkin’ it’s the insulin or his dental in need. I can’t figure out what else it would be.

Ya... I'm pretty envious of ya'll's #s ;-)

Glad that ya'll are doing so well.

So much for the lot # theory.

I'm kinda a weird and don't have a lot number. Still new and learning the jargon but here it goes... My ProZinc was locally compounded / generic. When I got it from the vet, I called immediately and said this ain't the right insulin cause it looks nothing like the brand name bottle on the web. It was then explained that this was a generic version compounded by a local company that produces meds for vets (less expensively). Anyhow, long answer for no lot number. :-) Good luck with Bud!

Maybe we should all buy our insulin from Holly's source so all our guys will go OTJ. :-D

Harley's ProZinc bottle is also lot # B100389 and it expires 04/2012. Purchased on 1/10/11.

Hope this helps.

Holly.... was just at the vet (she's my *new* vet) and they get theirs from a compounding pharmacy, too.

I am getting my PZI from the *old* vet whilst seeing the new one. :o

Told new vet they'd either have to be able to get PZI or we'd have to go to compounded when this bottle runs out. She said Bud might react differently to the compounded version....... o, but let's HOPE so!

VERY nice to see the results your getting with the compounded one.

Yup, Laura... maybe!

RE the lot # thing.... since Bud's only had 1 blue number today in 41 days, I was wondering if her rising numbers might be due to the lot. I've seen a few others with numbers rising after being in the blues and was wondering if there was a connection by lot #. Appears not to be. Thanks ya'll for the input.

OT: Thanks Marcy... Have been researching cameras for 3 months! I think this one's doing a good job but the reviews says that prints don't come out well. Will see.

Beautiful photos!! Beautiful model!! I recently got a nikon d-3000 and I love it. I hope you get gorgeous prints- a lot of it seems to depend on where you print them. With my nikon the prints look awesome from shutterfly and not as great from rite-aid.

Not to be the lemon in the lemonade... but there is no such thing as compounded ProZinc. If it is compounded it is compounded PZI, not ProZinc. ProZinc is a manufactured PZI insulin and trademarked. There is some thought that compounded insulins might be more variable. They also do not have as long a shelf life.

If the bottle does not look like this it is not ProZinc:

The PZI sticky has many links and resources for sourcing the REAL ProZinc [and BCP].

As far as compounded insulins available in the US, if I had the choice I personally would avoid them unless you are using BCP [BCP has shown good results here]. Beyond the legal implications, I would have serious questions about any pharmacy or vet selling "ProZinc" that was not the real deal. I mention this because I have personally seen a compounding pharmacy selling "ProZinc" that was compounded and really wasn't the real deal.
