New post, so just a little background. I first rescued Patches (calico, unique name, eh? ) who was a (seemingly) TNR (clipped ear). She took a while to get her used to me outside and then inside and she is now a nice little house cat, who ventures outsides sometimes.
Cruiser showed up over a year ago, he is a young tux, he was trusting of Patches but VERY weary of humans, so I kind of refer to him as a stray turning feral nailbite_smile . He went through an entire winter outside with tons of snow, but I kept feeding him and trying to get him used to me. This past November, I successfully trapped and neutered him, my friend is a Vet and she gave him "the works", she actually let me sit in on the procedure
. I have kept him indoors and he is still very leery of humans. His safe place is under a bed and he uses a LB in an adjoining bathroom. He would always stay under the bed until it was night and there was no human activity. I slowly got him to come out from under the bed (with the presence of Patches in the room) by using toys (food just would not do the trick with him). Fast forward to today, I can now be in the bedroom on the side of the bed and he will come out to play on the other side ;-) . Sometimes he will go onto the bed either to play or rest while I am there. If I enter the room and the two cats are there, he will tend to stay there now, albeit I have to move very slowly and quietly. Also, late at night he will come out while I am at my computer and hang out with Patches or use the scratching post. He will stay out of his hiding spot and he will almost always keep himself between myself and a "quick dash" to his safe spot under the bed. The two cats seem to be even be playing at times, I have seen them swat at each other, but they never fight. A couple of times, after I went to bed (different than his safe spot bed) with Patches on my bed, he came in and jumped up on the bed (I don't know if he knew I was there or not) . So he is getting more used to me and Patches has been a HUGE help in getting him a little more trusting each day; it is slow and requires a LOT of patience ohmygod_smile .
