CRF blood work

I am starting a new topic as the old one is pretty far down and won't get seen.
Cessan is SO much better. Her fur is glossy and when I pet her I don't feel her spine and her hips seem to be less prominent. She is eating pretty normal now but she is still hooked on the "Treat when I eat" that began a couple or 3 years ago when she got hurt and refused to eat. Force feeding took a week and to help her keep eating she got a tempation when she was going to eat. If I yell treat she comes to where I am, if I yell Chocolate sprinkles she comes to her dish to get crushed temptations.
I have her on pepcid AC 1/4 tablet 2 times a day. Found pill pockets but they only hold the tiny Pepcid AC don't know what I will do if she ever goes on an antibiotic.
She gets 50 cc's Sub Q (saline) every other day, but with a syringe and the needle is huge at 16 gauge. The Vet said if it was smaller I would never get the fluids through it and I do have to really push hard to get it in and I do go slowly. I need to find a place and way to do it that is not stressful to her as now she is not sure what is going on, she stays still pretty good.
I got Aluminium hydrochloride powder for her but find out that the blood work did not include phosphorus levels.
The vet will call me tomorrow and I will ask to come in for that test. Is there any other blood test needed?
Need Questions Reviewed:
I have questions about food. I have her on the perfect Swedish wet food and she hasn't needed insulin since you all helped me a few years back. In reading the CRF info and seeing what people post in Tanya's CRF site they seem to be feeding the special diets from Science, Hills, Royal Canine. Cessan wouldn't eat them anyway and I couldn't afford the 3 dollar plus per can for her anyway. I have read that many vets and scientists do not believe protein hurts the CRF cats. What are all of you with CRF cats doing. I think if I feed the good food high in protein and no garbage in it that using the binder should do the rest with phosphorus and the protein won't hurt.
Vitamins:
The only cat vitamins here are just a few B vitamins. Do you give your cats vitamins and which brand, I will need to have someone bring them in from the USA.

I have the blood work in Metric and I guess Scatcats will have to check that out.
Is there somewhere I should be posting things so I don't need repeat what has happened? Where is it? I had it on the old board.

Head rubs from Cessan and Bonnie

Bonnie, this will be quick, gotta run to work..

Is there any way one of us can send you smaller needles? in the states we have a brand called Terumos, they have a thinner wall, so you can get smaller needles that still give you good sub q flow. I was using the 20 gauge needles for Merlyn, but even the 18 Terumos would be better than the 16s you are using.

Yes, CRF cats do not need low protein RX foods until end stage. Merlyn got Wellness canned food (low phosphorus) and his kidneys were relatively stable..it was his big heart that gave out. You want to look for foods low in phosphorus, if you can.

Sending cyber hugs to you and Cessan..

I've stripped down the blood work to those being off the chart so to say.

LYM = L 0.8 10 9/1 1.0: 7.0

MID = 0.3 10 9/1 0.2 : 1.0

MCHC = H 401 g/l 310 : 385

LYM = Lymphosytes. There is nothing alarming really just being low which is called Lycopenia. When they are low in white blood cells, it can be made up for it via the T-Pro, where Immune globulin antibodies are being produced instead. That is the scenario with leukemia and SLR, but can also just be like that on the particular cat. My Gustav is one of those with hardly any white blood cells but he creates T-Protein Immun globulin antibodies instead. What is going on with the T-Protein can only be specified via an elfores blood test. U-Protein, proteins in the urine, can also be specified with an elfores.

BUN 37.7mmo/L - shouldn't be higher than 2.0-10.0, so 37.7 is VERY high.

T-Pro 85 g/L - shouldn't be higher than 54.0-78.00, so is just a little high and could be due to too little fluids.

Cre 388 umol/L - shouldn't be higher than 70-160. So 388 is, I'm sorry, very high.

I would suggest you also had the vet check the urine with a sterile sample from the bladder, to see if there is any protein in the urine.

Bonnie, are you using a bag of fluids and a line to do the sub-Q fluids? Like Lisa mentioned, the 18 gauge needle is still big but not as big as a 16, and that is what a lot of us use because the fluids go in quickly. Some use a 20 gauge. Reason for asking about the bag and fluid line is that down the road she may need even more fluids at a time and you can hang it from a coat hanger attached to a door or window frame, or even a picture fram, and just have to hold the needle end itself and the fluids just run in. Sounds to me like you are using a big syringe instead of a bag so please correct me if I am wrong.

RE: answering all who answered my note on CRF

Hello! I got most of my questions answered I guess. Thank you so much for the help from all of you. The Vet saw us this morning and did not charge for the visit just the phosphorous test and that has to be sent away so I will find out probably on Friday.
She said Cessan looked so much better but we were all surprised she had not gained any weight. She feels less boney and she does look good and glossy and bright eyed.
We discussed her care and tests etc and agreed that the goal with Cessan was that she was happy and having a good quality of life. Since she is showing no signs of protein building up in her body and there is no sure treatment for protein in her urine as everything on the net says there are meds that are given but no one knows that they really work. We decided to forgo the sterile urine test. She gets upset enough with just the car ride and such and she hates the sterile urine tests.
One big thing Pernilla, the Vet, knows is money is terribly short here and having Unnecessary tests and medications is essential. Once Cessan is not happy with life she will be put to sleep with me holding her. It will kill me as she is my very best friend in the entire world. It is Cessie that I talk to and hug and kiss and it has been Cessie taking care of me on the days the pain is to bad to move.
I owe her the best I can give and when the money is gone and she is not happy we know what we must do.

1. The size needle is 18 - my poor eyesite reading pink on white in teeny letters is terrible. She said there were no needles like were described to me and if we can find a way to get some from the USA I will send money to the person. I can't use paypal they wouldn't let me buy anything without having a credit card even though I had the money in pay pal. But I have some USA cash. Dr had no problem with me getting anything from America but didn't think any place in America would take her prescription. I question if customs saw 20 gauge needles on the shipping slip as they will think I am shooting drugs and will call and yell and either send them back or throw them away. Not sure what to do. Maybe Ann can tell what she has done.

2. We have a very poor selection of cat food available here and there are only 2 good for diabetic cats and looking for a low protein is going to be a project as she will not eat any of the diet foods from the vet and I simply do not have $3 a can there is no money for that. I will start checking foods out but I can't only think of maybe if there is whiskas that is low?

Cessan is curled up on the breasts ( only good reason I can see for having the size I do!) purring and actually drying her wet feet from her quick trip outside to go potty. It is like spring today so she needed out for 15 minutes.

Thank you for the help and I will be hanging around. Hugs Bonnie in spring like Sweden

On needles and importing

the Custom compounded a shipment of syringes and sent it back to the sender with a Not Allowed For Import notice. But I wasn't informed.

You can try and get the needles from the hospital Blå Stjärnan, call their Store and ask, 751 36 61.

If they have them, I can pick them up and send to you if you give me your address. PM in that case.

Well I guess I won't be ordering needles but will bring some back if I can't get them from the Blue Star Hospital. I don't go to America for 2 years but better late than never.
Cessan tried the "spray" Renalzin and it is like toothpaste but looks like mustard and doesn't taste good for all the tasteless ads. It had a slight taste but she knows her foods. She is like a food critic!! I returned it to the vet who thought it rather disgusting when she saw it. I didn't keep pushing it as it causes nausea and vomiting and some other stuff as side effects and is not allowed in the country in Australia. They are pretty strict and I just felt they must have a good reason. ????

Dr. didn't know about the other and I didn't find it googling for Sweden. I decided to go with the aluminum hydroxide powder as it seemed to have less problems and cats claimed it was really tasteless. I have 1pound in one jar and 2/3 of a pound in another coming this week. I will have to have a friend bring it into the country if I can find one or hopefully it will last till I can go. I will see how fast it goes and a friend who lives in the USA part of the year will be returning for the summer as soon as her husband gets his green card. She will bring it in for me then and maybe the needles. Didn't think very fast before. lol
Is that phone number the entire number or is there an area code also?
Thanks for the help. Bonnie
