Wondering if anyone has any insight on these crazy numbers or how to get it somewhat normal. Sorry if this is confusing, I’m just trying to get her numbers to where I can leave the house during the day without having to worry, when you check her spreadsheet, Im having to change doses, she did good on 2 units for awhile, then dropped, so I put her back on 1.75, which was ok, but then night time it was like she was getting no insulin, thought my husband wasnt mixing good or giving fur shots, so last night I did the shot, still nothing different, only other thing I could think of was maybe the syringes were off, so I told him to try a new pack for this morning and right before time for my nephews 3rd bday, bam she is dropping, so he stayed home and I went, making sure he was checking her ever 30 min after I gave her a lc snack, I dont know what to do with her dose, maybe she will go down more tonight at +8, I just cant stand her in the higher numbers but also would like to be able to go somewhere during the day if I need to, night time is fine, but this is just about to drive me crazy!

Hi Sharon and Bell,
If I were you, I would swap Bell to another insulin like Lantus which will last the 12 hours and does not drop hard and fast. She has had almost 6 months on the vetsulin and I think it is time to swap to a longer acting more gentle insulin.
Are you offering some snacks during the cycles?

Yeah that would be great but every vet in my area and I called them all, only use vetsulin, and yes I do give her snacks, usually at +8 but if I see her deopping to low to early then I give then

We switched Chico from Caninsulin/vetsulin to Lantus and i cannot imagine going back. Our vet as well didn’t have any other insulin, we asked him to give us a prescription for it and we bought it from a pharmacy close by.
The difference between caninsulin and lantus is that caninsulin would drop Chico brutally from 500s to 150s in almost every cycle he wasn’t bouncing meanwhile with Lantus he has much flatter cycles.
Good luck with figuring out Bells curves

Thanks! I even asked every vet I called, and I called all of them in my surrounding counties and none uses or said they would use even prozinc, I could just imagine the responses I would get if I even mentioned lantus! Im just trying to do my best with what I have, maybe some day I will get this figured out!

I would try giving snacks at +3 and +5 each cycle. Is that possible?
That will help slow down the drops that cause the bounces.
Where about sin the UK do you live? Maybe there is someone here that can help you find a vet that will prescribe lantus
