Hi all,
We just heard from the vet that we'll switch from Vetsulin to Lantus. I'm taking the prescription to the pharmacy this evening.

Wondering how mcuh I should expect to pay? I see prices from $100 and up on-line; but I'm not sure those will match the in-store costs.

Would you mind responding with your location (general) and cost for Lantus and the syringes? Also, do most of you buy on-line or in-store?

Thanks!

Dallas, Tx, northern suburbs, cheapest locally was Walmart, $102. Walgreens, $112. That is the cost of the vials.
Cheapest syringes also Walmart but only 25 cents difference between them and Walgreens and I really like Walgreens' syringes so I get those lots of times too.

We get the vial. It was $123 at a Walgreen's pharmacy in Chicago. Not sure about exact syring prices, but we get them from Walgreen's too. That cost isn't a biggie at all. Under $10 for 20 syringes, I think.

What's the story with the Solostar? I don't understand it...?

It's just Lantus in a pen form  The Lantus OptiClick cartridges are the insulin in a cartridge form, designed for Human diabetics to use in an insulin pen.

There's a picture in this thread that shows the three different containers Lantus comes in: 10 ml bottle, OptiClick cartridge, and SoloStar pen. viewtopic.php?f=28&t=5207&start=0

You don't use the SoloStar pen or OpticClick cartridge the way a Human diabetic would. For cats, just stick the insulin syringe right into the rubber stopper and draw up insulin like you would with a bottle.

There's a picture in the Lantus info and handling sticky that shows how to use a cartridge.

SoloStar pens and OptiClick cartridges come in a box of 5. Each pen or cartridge contains 3 ml of Lantus. A box can last you about 5 months so it's very cost effective vs spending $100+ every month for a 10 ml bottle that you throw away barely used.

You can use a free prescription drug card to save some money on Lantus: http://www.felinediabetes.com/phorum5/r ... ?8,1946184 The Supply Closet board sometimes has coupons for Lantus or free Lantus and other supplies available.
