Is there any place other than a pharmacy or grocery store with a pharmacy that you can buy Lantus. Harley will soon be up to 10 units twice a day. The Lantus I buy from Cub foods (the lowest cost I can find) is $114/10 unit bottle.

Most Lantus users use the pre-filled SoloStar pens or cartridges instead of the 10ml bottle. A bottle may last a month, maybe a little more, and you're tossing away a barely used bottle since most diabetic cats need only a few units every day. The pens and cartridges come in a box of five and are 3ml each. You use one brand new pen or cartridge each month and only a small amount of insulin. The cost for a box of pens or cartridges is more than a single bottle (approx $150 vs $110 or so) but it's much more cost effective. You don't need anything to use with the pens or cartridges. Just use insulin syringes to draw up a dose. The Lantus board has a sticky on how to use a pen or cartridge: viewtopic.php?f=9&t=151

Some Lantus users buy the insulin from online Canadian pharmacies for much less than what a US pharmacy charges. That might be something you can look into. You can ask on the Lantus board for recommended web sites.

If you rather buy from a local pharmacy, you can use one of these free prescription drug cards to save some money: http://www.felinediabetes.com/phorum5/r ... 12,1772312 Costco may have good prices but it depends on where you live. Lantus can only be bought from a pharmacy.

At ten units Bid that is 20 units a day a 1000 unit vial would last 50 days. So you would likely use up a vial before it goes bad. Thus, cartridges/disposable pens are not a good idea.

Regarding vials, I would call around to find cheapest place. Also, look at the sticky in the Supply Closet for possibly getting it from a Canadian Pharmacy.

When the dose gets that high, you may want to consider switching to LEVEMIR -- a human diabetic has told us that Lantus stings when injected.

I got 5 3ml cartridges (15ml) from Walmart in Ontario for just under $120 -- at the time, the exchange rate was pretty much even.

Apparently you cannot get 10ml vials of Levemir in Canada - only cartridges (Gayle, acromom in Toronto goes through a LOT of cartridges with her two acrocats).

You may find costco or another super club being more affordable. You don't have to be a member to use the pharmacy, but if u are you may get an additional discount.
