Copper was having a another great day laying underneath his favorite tree outside, when my daughter decided to practice her violin outside and scared Copper away. An hour later i called him inside for testing and feeding time and he didn't come. He NEVER leaves our yard. Always about in the same spot or around the yard somewhere. When i couldn't find him i started hitting a can of food and calling for him. I could hear him meowing in the distance. Found him at my neighbors house hanging out under her bushes. He must of "ran" a long way. This is far to my neighbors house. Never have seen him wonder so far. Guess this is a good sign in that he is feeling better to travel so far away. But a bad sign in that he could get into all sorts of trouble in someoneelse's yard. Lots of other doggie's and cats around. So this did concern me. I carried him home and don't think my daughter will be playing outside anymore with Copper outside.

He had a good day and in the blue's again today. Went out for a Father's Day hike and didn't get back until +13 and he was @338. But he was already at almost 300 @+9. So he wasn't too bad. Very hungry though.

First, I am happy to hear that you found him! That must have been scary. And it is encouraging that he walked or ran that far too. I did chuckle at the mental image of you in the back yard ringing the "chow time cowbell" though. :-D

Second, I think it's awesome that your daughter plays the violin! It is the one instrument I always wished I could play, and wish I'd tried years ago. I play guitar and keys, but the violin is by far my favorite instrument to listen to. I would give my left arm to be able to play anything by Antonio Vivaldi, and the violin parts of "The Four Seasons" are my favorite pieces of music ever written, especially the ones in "Winter". Of course, if I gave my left arm, I'd have a hard time of it...

Please tell her to continue to practice - it is a beautiful instrument. (just make sure Copper is indoors if she is outdoors)!

SO glad you found him and he was safe... Hoping he doesn't go out exploring new and uncharted worlds again!

Sorry to hijack your thread Lori... but Carl - my nephew plays cello (and quite well, I might add!). I FINALLY convinced my sister to let him fly here for a visit when the NC Symphony was doing Vivaldi at Christmas, one VERY warm July!!! I thought this Minnesotan was gonna melt for sure!!! It was fabulous - the symphony under the stars!!!

Carl,

Both my daughters play violin pretty good. Been playing for 4yrs and finally just starting to get better and play other songs beside twinkle twinkle this year, YEAH. They had taught themselves a new old tyme gospel song, I'll fly away" (Daddy's favorite), to play for him on father's day. They have been working on it for several months in secret to surprise him. They had to learn the melody and harmony parts and then finally played it together for 1st time on sat. I was a little worried if they were going to pull it off. But, when performance time came yesterday evening when he got home from work, they did an awesome job!! He actually cried he was so touched. That rarely happens. Of course, i did too! (Made sure Copper was locked up in a room somewhere else in the house so he wouldn't "Fly away" again). It was the BEST Father's Day gift they could give him. We then took a hike until sunset and had a fried chicken picnic (his favorite). Wonderful day, except for loosing Copper for a little bit. I would love for them to play vivaldi or schnidler's list someday.

Lu,
Sounds like you and your nephew had a great time. Always love watching symphonies under the stars. They always have a great symphony concert up here in the summer under the stars and then do a fireworks show with it. It's wonderful. My family loves going every year.

Perhaps you might construct a 'cat-a-tat', a screened in outdoor area where Copper can enjoy the outdoors, protected against hawks, and cars, though not the sound of violins!

In my house we call that the dining room! An instead of violins, it's me trying to play piano (last organ - not piano - lesson was approx 38 years ago! It must be mesmorizing... as everyone seems to crash all over the room!!! (or else they're playing dead in hopes the music will stop!)

Any day the girls can make Dad cry for good reasons is a great day! Lord knows my daughter has it down to a science.

oh, Lori - the first part of your subject line took my breath away! Soooooo glad you found him! Violins are able to make pretty music, but they can also be rough on the ears! ;-) Ginnie was a music major and couldn't wait to show us what she had learned on the trumpet. Hershey was NOT amused. ;-) He ran and hid in the bedroom. Guess it's good he couldn't get outside. :-D

My poor kitties never go outside and have listened as my children played piano, percussion, trumpet, trombone, guitar (acoustic, electric and bass), alto sax, tenor sax and tuba. Guess they should get a medal of some kind!

We've only been to hear the NC Symphony a couple of times, but used to enjoy Campbell University's Wind Ensemble several times a year. We did that for about 6 years, until the last person we knew had graduated. Then, my kids kind of lost interest. That last graduate is an amazing saxophonist and they figured it couldn't get any better than him, so why bother. They're so silly, sometimes. ;-)

Well, I REALLY am going to find something for supper now...Doug will home soon and he and Jessica have this bad habit of expecting to eat...go figure ;-)

My goodness.....I can't imagine how worried you must have been. Im so glad you found him!! Did you ask him if he was trying to go to IHop? Maybe to join Grayson?
Im so glad he is safe!!

Libby, this is where your FD training can come in handy...... you know the routine..... stall without feeding!
